Seeking: Advisory Board Member

 

Snarky Elephant is looking for an advisory board member to help support its mission, to help the organization grow and become sustainable. The Advisory Board member will support the work of SEP and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by SEP’s Executive Team, the Board—CEO / CCO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Advisory Board is both critical and expected. SEP is at a critical juncture in its time as an organization, currently transitioning from an all-volunteer staff into a full-time organization that can support full-time staff. 

 

Ideal candidates will be motivated by the power of storytelling with an activist lens and will be passionate about SEP’s mission. This is a new position that can be remote and offers an opportunity to be part of the team helping build out a production company seeking to create new models for production companies in the film industry.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a trusted advisor to the Executive Team as they develop and implements SEP’s strategic plan 

  • Assisting and supporting the creator selection process annually by providing reviews and feedback of submissions annually. 

  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by SEP for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings 

  • Supporting approval of SEP’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities 

  • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the the organization’s Executive Team (primarily its CEO and CCO) 

  • Assisting advisory board members in identifying and recruiting other Advisory Board Members 

  • Partnering with the Executive Team and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out 

  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments 

  • Representing SEP to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization 

  • Ensuring SEP commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities SEP serves

 

FUNDRAISING

SEP is currently Fiscally Sponsored. Advisory Board Members will consider SEP a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts to SEP in accordance with its dues. So that SEP can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, SEP expects to have 100% of Advisory Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity. Additionally, Board members make a commitment to attend and support SEP's annual fundraising campaigns and gala each year, as available pending their geographic location.

 

BOARD TERMS/PARTICIPATION

SEP’s Board Members are subject to peer reviews assessing their appointment every 2 years. Advisory Board meetings will be held quarterly and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting the next generation of storytellers telling deeply impactful stories connected with their identities, ultimately having the ability to make impact in the areas of social justice, mental health, women’s rights, climate change, identity, and beyond.  

 

Qualifications Include:

  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in the film industry, business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector 

  • A commitment to and understanding of SEP’s beneficiaries, preferably based on experience 

  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals 

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of SEP’s beneficiaries

  • A vested interest in making an impact in the worlds of social justice, equity, mental health, and beyond.

 

Service on SEP’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Advisory Board Members’ duties.
