10.3% of show creators in digital scripted shows in 2018-2019 were POC and 89.7% were white while the population of POC in the USA is 40.2%.
Only 2.4 out of 10 lead actors in broadcast scripted TV are people of color.
Only 2.3 out of 10 credited writers in digital scripted TV are people of color.
From 1994 to 2013, women made up only 22.6% of crew members on average of the 2,000 feature films analysed.
Only 7% of screenwriters in 2019 TV where women of color.
WHO WE ARE
At Snarky Elephant Productions, we’ve embedded the idea of shifting established standards and changing company cultures into our DNA. Snarky Elephant focuses exclusively on producing content about and by underrepresented groups, especially groups with the least amount of representation in film. We are dedicated to providing equal pay and equal representation among crew and employees.
Within our company and its productions, we’re proud to say that over 75% of the cast and crew identified as a woman, person of color, and/or a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Our leadership, right down to our production assistants, is atypical and non-conforming. Perhaps most notably, our founders embody the underrepresented identities they are uplifting.
The Snarky Elephant Advisory Boards are made up of top creatives, film executives, producers, directors, and others in the entertainment industry. Each board is designed to provide guidance for the creative and executive sides of film development. Our boards hold Snarky Elephant Productions to its goals to ensure fair and accurate representation on-screen and off-screen, create quality film narratives, and provide support systems for underrepresented individuals in the film industry.
