shruti parekh

Shruti Parekh tells intimate and incisive stories of life on the margins of American society.  Her work spans fiction, documentary, journalism, animation, music videos, and photography. Shruti’s first narrative short, Blood Moon, tells the story of a girl starting her period and won the Audience Award at the South Asian Film Festival of America. Her second short, Esperanza, deals with contrasting immigrant experiences and was featured in UCLA’s Daily Bruin. Shruti is currently finishing her UCLA thesis short film, Homebody, about the last tenant hold out in a Brooklyn apartment building.

 

She was the assistant to acclaimed director Mira Nair on her 2013 film The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and has worked on three award-winning feature documentaries in post-production. Her music videos have been featured on Remezcla, Jezebel, 2DopeBoyz and MTV2.
